About Spectrum Curtains and Blinds

Spectrum Curtains & Blinds has been part of the Lilydale community since 1973. In 2015, long-time team member Sophie Unland took ownership of the business from Barry Ryder, continuing its legacy of quality while bringing her own hands-on, client-focused approach. Spectrum Curtains and Blinds has a fully mobile showroom with an extensive range of samples that we can bring to you. We also have a new showroom located in Chirnside Park coming soon in 2026.

Meet the Team

Sophie

Owner and Interior Decorator, Sophie has over 20 years of experience in window furnishings. She provides in-home and office consultations through our mobile showroom, helping you choose the right fabrics, finishes, and solutions for your space. Sophie oversees every project from measure to installation, ensuring the highest standards are maintained throughout.

Jackie

Jackie, our Office Manager, brings valuable hands-on industry experience as a former installer and interior decorator, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. She wears many hats within the business, from helping clients select fabrics and products in our showroom to assisting with installations in your home.

Olly

Our skilled installation specialist, Olly, brings years of hands-on experience to every project. He takes pride in ensuring every curtain, blind, and shutter is installed with precision and care, delivering a professional finish that looks great and functions perfectly. Reliable and detail-oriented, Olly helps ensure every project meets Spectrum’s high standards.

THE EVOLUTION OF SPECTRUM

Spectrum Furnishings was established in 1973 by Barry Ryder, who envisioned a company dedicated to delivering quality home furnishings. Over the following three decades, Barry expanded the business, opening four showroomsacrossBulleen, Lilydale, Forest Hill, and Beaconsfield, alongside a curtain manufacturing facility in Croydon. His commitment to craftsmanship and customer service laid a solid foundation for what would become a beloved local brand.

Foundation and Growth

A New Generation

In 2004, as Barry began to prepare for the next chapter of his life, he began transitioning the business to his daughter Kim. To focus on a single location, the other showrooms were closed, leaving the Lilydale store as the heart of Spectrum Furnishings. As Kim started her own family in 2006, she brought Sophie into the business to help manage operations. Recognising the importance of education, Sophie pursued her studies and earned her Certificate IV in Interior Decoration by 2009, marking the beginning of her journey as Spectrum’s key salesperson, guiding customers in selecting the perfect window furnishings.

In 2010, Kim realised that running a business was not her calling, prompting Barry to train Sophie for greater responsibilities. He imparted his expertise in product installations, ensuring that Sophie was well-equipped to lead the company’s future. By 2015, as Barry announced his plans to retire, Sophie expressed her enthusiasm for taking over Spectrum Furnishings, setting the stage for a new era.

In 2023, Jackie embraced motherhood with the arrival of her daughter, Charlie, prompting the hiring of Lisa to assist with business administration. As the team grew, they continued to adapt and thrive. In 2025, Jackie welcomed her second daughter, Darcie. Sadly, Lisa moved on to pursue other opportunities, but their family spirit prevailed as Emily joined the team, ensuring continued support in administrative tasks.

Through dedication, resilience, and a strong family foundation, Spectrum Curtains & Blinds has transformed from a small showroom into a thriving business known for exceptional products and personalised service. As the company continues to grow, Sophie and her team remain committed to their customers, shaping beautiful homes one window furnishing at a time.

In early 2026, we plan to open the doors to our brand-new showroom and factory space, allowing us to showcase our beautiful products and provide an even better experience for our customers. This exciting venture marks a significant milestone in our journey, and we can't wait to welcome everyone to our new home.
